Intermountain Riverton Hospital has received a Level IV trauma center re-certification from the Utah Bureau of Emergency Medical Services to provide vital trauma care to patients in the Southwest Salt Lake Valley.
Earning a Level IV trauma center designation certifies Intermountain Riverton Hospital can provide advanced trauma life support to evaluate and stabilize patients before transferring them to a higher-level trauma hospital or for more specialized services, if needed.
The bureau awarded the Level IV re-certification after an extensive survey of the hospital and praised the hospital for its excellent relationships with emergency medical services first responders, other community partners, and excellent leadership.
“Intermountain Riverton Hospital is well known for quality, safety, high standards of care and overall excellence,” said Todd Neubert, Intermountain Riverton Hospital administrator. “This designation is a verification of the comprehensive care provided to the many patients experiencing trauma in our community.”
Level IV trauma centers must meet strict criteria showing caregivers can evaluate, stabilize, diagnose, and are equipped to always provide advanced trauma life support.
The designation also assures that the best resources are at the bedside of the patients and helps many Intermountain Riverton Hospital patients to receive trauma care closer to home.
For patients needing specialized advanced care, Intermountain Riverton Hospital will rapidly assess and stabilize patients and function as the entry point to Intermountain’s system of integrated specialty care.
“The entire Riverton Hospital team has worked diligently to meet all the state requirements,” says Brita Jensen, RN, trauma coordinator for Intermountain Riverton Hospital. “This achievement was a collaboration of numerous individuals in our hospital and EMS staff and signifies our commitment to provide the best care to our community.”
Patients seen in the Emergency Department for a stroke, heart attack, or trauma go through a set of standardized procedures in a timely manner. Those established protocols ensure the hospital maintains a high bar when it comes to patient care.
“Our whole community will benefit from this designation,” said Jensen.
Five trauma level designations are recognized. Higher-level facilities, I and II and III, treat more complex patients.
The Level IV designation is received after an extensive review and survey by the bureau and is re-evaluated every three years.
