The attorney of Taberon Honie was denied by a judge after he requested that the court stay open late on the morning of Honie's execution "if something goes wrong."

Honie is set to be executed early Aug. 8.

Honie's attorney, Eric Zuckerman, emailed the court, saying, ". . . if something goes wrong and there is some sort of an emergency during the execution, we would like to be able to file an emergency motion before judge Wilcox and request a telephonic hearing."

The Fifth District Court senior judge, Jeffrey Wilcox, denied the motion, citing that Zuckerman did not specify any need for an emergency motion.

Wilcox said that unless Zuckerman can provide a specific example where "the sentencing court could possibly hear an emergency motion during the execution," the request would be denied.
