'Paws up, Dale!' FIU Stadium renamed to honor Miami's own Pitbull

The FIU Panthers might need to change their name to the FIU Pitbulls after the Latin American Grammy winner made a deal with the university.

Florida International University (FIU) made the announcement on Tuesday, stating FIU Athletics and entertainer Pitbull reached an agreement that would rename the FIU Stadium to Pitbull Stadium, the first-ever athletics venue named after a music artist.

"It's my great honor to officially announce a partnership, unique to the 305, with a worldwide brand, FIU football stadium will now be called Pitbull Stadium," said the Athletics Director Scott Carr. "I'm thrilled to be the first ever to say, 'Paws up, Dale!'"

Pitbull, whose real name isArmando Christian Pérez, is a Miami native. The singer and rapper also goes by "Mr. 305" in connection to Miami's area code.

"This partnership with FIU is a true honor and a testament to what we can achieve when we work hard," said Perez. "Renaming the stadium isn't just about a name change. It's about inspiring the community, creating opportunities and showing the world that with determination and a clear vision, anything is possible. We're making history together, and we're just getting started. Why dream when you can live it?"

Pérez will pay $1.2 million each year until August 2029, then there is the option to extend the deal for another five years, according to the proposed agreement. Additionally,Pérez would get full use of the stadium 10 days out of the year rent-free, with some of the tickets held for FIU students.Pérez will also receive access to two of the suits and 20 VIP parking passes for FIU football home games.

The awarding winning singer was also asked to create a "FIU Anthem" for sporting events.

"This isn't just an announcement, it's a movement," saidPérez. "I just want y'all to know this is truly history in the making. I'm honored, it's a blessing."
