SALT LAKE CITY (KUTV) — A driver was killed after their vehicle burst into flames on a Salt Lake City interstate when they crashed into a bridge support column head-on.
Utah Highway Patrol troopers said they were dispatched to I-80 at the Bangerter Highway interchange to the Salt Lake International Airport on reports of a serious single-vehicle crash just after 3:15 a.m. on Saturday, June 8.
Upon arrival, troopers and fire personnel found the vehicle fully engulfed and actively burning. \
Investigators believe the vehicle left the roadway to the right for an unknown reason and struck the bridge support column.
Firefighters eventually extinguished the flames and found that the sole occupant of the vehicle, a man, had suffered fatal injuries.
