ROY, Utah (KUTV) — The crash of a small airplane into a Roy man's front yard has raised questions about the number of similar incidents on or near the Ogden Hinckley Airport.
Two people inside the plane were transported to the hospital to be treated for minor injuries after the crash Wednesday.
A front door security camera captured video of the plane striking the road and swinging into the front yard, kept from the house only by a tree.
The crash was one of many over the last several years.
In a 2019 crash, the plane struck a billboard before going down on Interstate 15. The crash involved a flight instructor and another man.
The same plane was involved in a crash on I-15 in Riverdale the year before.
Four people were killed in a July 2017 crash when their plane lost power around 300 feet in the air, crashing onto I-15 . The plane had recently taken off from the Ogden Hinckley Airport.
The pilot in that crash lost his brother in a similar crash 15 years earlier - also soon after taking off from the airport.
Chaos erupted in a January 2020 crash, after the plane struck two houses in a Roy neighborhood close to the airport before coming crashing. The plane then burst into flames.
it was less than a mile from the crash into a billboard on I-15, just two months later.
“We’ve been to at least three of these in the last couple of years,” Roy Police Sgt. Matt Gwynn said at the time. “We’ve had two recently that weren’t fatal, and then this is the second one in the last couple years that has been fatal.”
