Talkin' Real: Meet RSL's new Australian winger, Lachlan Brook

Real Salt Lake has been searching for depth in this summer transfer window and positioning the club for the future in case they get an attractive (or massive) offer for 21-year-old Andres Gomez who has impressed everyone with 13 goals and 9 assists. RSL settled on Lachlan Brook, a 23 year-old winger who has most recently played for the Western Sydney Wanderers in the A-League. His 9 goals led the club in the just concluded Australian season. Brook joins David James on this episode of Talkin' Sports and shares his back story. Lachlan says his German mother made sure there was always a soccer ball around, although growing up down under naturally he gave Australian Rules Football a try. Like former Jazzman and fellow Australian Joe Ingles, he didn't have a knack for it and didn't last very long. Brook played for Australia's U-17 team and debuted in Adelaide but at the age of 19 he made a huge leap moving to Brentford.

His timing wasn't great. He went to Brentford just as they were promoted to the English Premier League and there was no time to bring along a 19- year-old. He was loaned back to Adelaide and later to Crew Alexandra in League 2, the 4th tier of English soccer. After 34 appearances in the 2022-23 season, he returned to the A-League and Western Sydney.

Still only 23, the right winger with the explosive left foot, is now looking forward to an American adventure. Watch his conversation with DJ here as he explains his career moves and shares his favorite cheat food. Think about what you like to eat when you go off your diet and it probably won't be the same thing he eats when he varies his routine.

RSL returns to action in the Leagues Cup August 1st when Atlas visits America First Field for a 7pm kick off. Atlas will be coming off of a Leagues Cup game Saturday July 27th in Houston and RSL will visit Houston to wrap up group play on August 5th. The third-place team will be eliminated while the top two clubs advance to the knockout round of 32.
